To enroll your student, use this Checklist of Required Documents for enrollment:

1. Parent/Legal Guardian’s Government-Issued Photo Identification
2. Proof of Residency (Hover and click “Proof of Residency” for detailed documentation) 
3. Student’s Certified Birth Certificate
4. Student’s Immunization Record (must show child's name)
5. Student’s Social Security Card
6. If applicable, Withdrawal Papers and Records from last school attended-
7. If a military-connected student, then paperwork from the previous school can be provided to the new school for enrollment.
8. For pre-k registration of active-duty, National Guard, or reserve component of the Armed Forces who are ordered to active duty, can enroll their pre-kindergarten child per Texas Education Code (TEC) 29.153.
9. Elementary and Middle School- final report card from last school attended

Free Pre-Kindergarten for Military-Connected Children

If your child is at least three years old and meets the eligibility criteria as a child of an active duty member of the armed forces, National Guard, or reserve component of the armed forces, who is ordered to active duty by proper authority, they qualify for pre-K under the Free Prekindergarten for Certain Children (TEC 29.153). 

Transitioning to Mound Elementary

Transitioning to a new school environment can be challenging. At Mound, we will support you and your child as they ease into their new school and routines. The Academy of Leadership and Technology at Mound Elementary is a public school in Burleson, Texas. Our campus serves around 450 students. The closest military base is Fort Worth Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base (formerly Carswell Air Force Base), approximately 22 miles from the school. Mound Elementary is a leadership campus where we learn about leadership and communication skills. As a Leader in Me school, we believe all students are leaders. 

Our campus will give you a student-led guided tour by our military ambassadors. These students are also military-connected and understand the unique needs of military-connected students. Then your child is paired with a Purple Star Classroom Buddy. These students, the Purple Star Classroom Buddies, will spend time with your students during lunch for the first two weeks and guide them around campus to help your child integrate on campus. Our school colors are black and yellow. Our mascot is Mel, a Mustang. Unless there is a special dress-up day, we wear some of our favorite college or military shirts on Thursdays, and on Fridays, we wear our spirit shirts. We have campus-wide activities, including Habit Huddles. At these events, we celebrate our student leaders. For our military-connected students and families, we have special activities on campus. Our principal sends a weekly email newsletter to families, keeping you informed about events and happenings on campus. We welcome your children and family. Enrollment information in extracurricular activities and clubs.

          Mound Elementary warmly welcomes all students, including our military-connected children, to participate in a variety of clubs and activities. Sign-up and enrollment are easy—just ask your student's homeroom teacher about the options available. Some clubs are grade-level specific, like Safety Patrol for 4th through 5th graders. We offer special lunch bunch groups and year-round activities designed to support and connect military families. Participation is always optional and based on your child's interest. As an elementary school, we do not offer off-campus extracurricular activities. Below is a list of our clubs.

Process for providing academic records to the receiving LEA

Records can be requested from and to schools. If the request is within Texas, the school will use the TREX electronic systems to transfer the records. If it is outside the country or another state, then faxing the records via a records request form is required. Please see the PEIMS clerk at the front office for more information. 

Tutoring Information

Mound Elementary is pleased to offer tutoring during the spring semester to select 4th and 5th-grade students. We strive to support every child’s learning, with flexible before- and after-school options available. If you’re interested, please reach out to your child’s teacher—they’ll be happy to discuss the best options for your family.

We’re also happy to connect families with additional tutoring resources in the community, including local agencies and individual tutors. Please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or our school counselor for more information or guidance—we’re here to help!

Military-connected Family Events

Here are some of the events we had for military-connected students and their families: Veterans Day program, in November, a military family breakfast, craft time- making holiday cards for military members who are deployed, Purple UP! in April, to celebrate military-connected students in a school-wide event.

On the Campus

Professional school counselors are certified/licensed educators trained in school counseling with unique qualifications to address all students’ academic, personal/social, and career development needs.  School counselors implement school counseling programs that promote and enhance student achievement. They provide direct services to students to help them manage academic and social needs and to support the efforts of teachers and parents in promoting self-confidence, academic readiness, social and interpersonal sensitivity and skills, and awareness of academic and future career opportunities. 
Counselors are student advocates.  They can help to:
•    resolve scheduling conflicts or problems
•    review transcript information
•    make the correct subject choices
•    assist in creating stronger teacher-student relationships
•    listen to your personal concerns or problems
•    provide college information
•    guide students to available college scholarships and financial aid
•    provide career choice opportunities
•    give information about community resources to address concerns
Students and their parents are encouraged to talk with their school counselor about school-related issues, academic concerns, course offerings, school programs, testing requirements, graduation requirements, graduation plans, and the guidance curriculum.
